Pretty shades of color that are trending now
Newsletter for November 2011
Happy November to all our customers! We hope everyone is doing well gearing up for our Holiday season. We just had a great Halloween party with lots of food for everyone. All of the stylists dressed up, and some customers received discounts for coming dressed up. We love any excuse to have a good party!
Currently, we are in the process of giving the salon a “face-lift.” We have started at our front stations with new paint on the walls. We want it to be brighter and more cheerful, especially with a cold winter coming up soon.
Jennifer and her son, Justin, have started a photography business, JGrimes Photography. Jennifer takes beautiful pictures! She is offering specials right now, so please check their page: www.facebook.com/jgrimesphotography. She includes all her pricing information and you can see some of her work.
On November 23rd, we are going to have our Customer Appreciation Day. There will be plenty of good food, so feel free to drop in for a free lunch that day. Our customers are like family, so we want to celebrate Thanksgiving with you. Mark it on your calendars so that you don’t forget!
Our stylist, Marleen, is still doing feather extensions and tinsel bundles. Her feather extensions have dropped in price to only $5 an extension. Tinsel bundles are $5 also. The extensions last 4-6 weeks, and you can wash, blow-dry, curl, or straighten them. They are very pretty and so popular right now. The tinsel is also very trendy with the holidays. Come by and get some red, green, silver, or gold tinsel for Christmas!
Keep checking on our JOM Facebook page every day for specials and discounts. Our stylists offer different specials throughout the week, whether it’s $5 off any service or a free eyebrow wax.
We would like to welcome a new stylist, Robin Manuel, to the salon. She just started this week on November 7th. We are excited to have her.
Two of our customers, Brittany McAbee and Chris Martin just got married! Congratulations to both of you. Check out the JGrimes Photography FB page for their engagement pictures.
If there’s one thing we all love here, it’s doing hair! We want to give you a fresh new look or update your style. Give us a call (864)439-4244 to make an appointment with a stylist. Or go to www.facebook.com/jenniferonmane to look for any specials that are running. We hope to see you on November 23rd for Customer Appreciation Day!

PROM 2010

The number-one rule for prom is you gotta look good, preferably sexy. And to look good, you have to get the hairstyle right
Prom Hairstyles 2010. The best styles to wear in hair trends for prom 2010. When it comes to the hottest looks in prom hairstyles for 2010 it’s all about the updo. Updo hairstyles are classic looks that work for any prom season. Other popular trends in prom hairstyles to wear this year are taken from celebrities. Styles such as braids, the mohawk, tight curls, romantic waves, chignon buns, and retro styles. The look of 40′s waves makes a great classic look for prom

Prom 2010: Hair and Makeup Tip 1
When you do your make up, you should focus on highlighting one area of your face: either your eyes or your lips. How do you decide which? Just think back and remember which part of your face is most complimented and work on it. If you are going for lips, you might want to use bright colors like red and dark pink. Your eyes in this case should be made up softly and simply. If on the other hand you picked eyes, you should go for the smoky eyes look.
Prom 2010: Hair and Makeup Tip 2
Your skin tone to tell the truth is more important than your eyes and your lips. Most women under the age of 25 do not really need foundation. However if you have acne or blemishes or an uneven skin tone, you might want to go for foundation. While using foundation you should remember that the secret is to make it look like you are not wearing any make up at all. Part of the job is done by getting hold of foundation which is a perfect match for your skin. If you do not already have something like this, you should go to a department store where you can try out foundation before buying them. Apply the foundation sparingly and chiefly on the problem areas. But make sure that it is properly blended in especially at the jaw line.
Prom 2010: Hair and Makeup Tip 3
If you are not sure what your look should be, your best bet could be to model yourself like your favorite celebrity. Whether it is Rihanna or Jessica Simpson, Lauren Conrad or Heidi Klum, you shouldn’t have too much trouble getting your look to match theirs. If you are getting your make up done at a department store on Prom day, you might want to take a picture of your favorite celeb along and ask them to work on those lines.
Prom 2010: Hair and Makeup Tip 4
When you are getting ready for the prom, you should make sure that you have these necessary items in your purse:
• blotting paper- this is a better idea than powder if you do not want to end up looking like a mime by the end of the night
• lipstick or gloss
• powder (just in case, you never know when you might need it)
• breath mints
• small bottle of hairspray
In the end, in order to look radiant at your prom, be sure to be happy! You can never look better than when you are happy and smiling.
80′s Day
Wanted to add a picture of a few of my girls at the salon. This is Melissa, Robin, Christina and Ashley. On there way to Byrnes Highschool for the Miss Byrnes Pageant. We were there for the girls to help with hair emergencys. We love all the girls and had a blast. The girls dressed their hair up just to add a little fun!!
Different? People…..
Its been so long since I wrote. I do think about it all the time, just sitting down and actually writing….well I think we all know how hard it is.
First I wanted to say I went to a fashion show at Byrnes yesterday. Melissa joined me from the salon and Shannon from LDV Gallery was also sharing a table with me. We had a blast. I think some of the girls are excited and some are nervous. But just dont forget its suposed to be a fun time so when it comes time to walk out there on that stage go out with confidence! And have fun~ Don’t forget to take advantage of special discounts. If you are in the Miss Class and need a hair appoitment, book it before Oct 30th and you will receive discounts…We will also be behind the scenes in the dressing room for “Hair Emergencies”!
Next, for some reason this bothers me. Its something I wrote months ago but feel the need to read again. I am actually going to copy and paste here today just to refresh it.
I was thinking about ‘people’. How different we all are. How the cruelest of all time has to be high school. In so many different ways. Everyone…..and I mean everyone has their own personalitity & look. First, I have to begin by saying that since I have worked in the salon……(Ive always had a job working with the public <waitress>)I have learned so much. In school, believe it or not, I was pretty shy. I smiled ALL the time, I still TRY to do that (little more stressful; these days). I was just that kid that was friends with everyone. But of course had my closest friends beside me. But when it comes to this salon, I can talk to anybody!!! And when my customers sit in my chair, they talk to me too. Its like the ‘release all’ chair. I love that. And believe me when I say…..I keep secrets. Can you imagine how many secrets that are running around in my head???? They get lost sometimes haha….But what I’m getting at (other than I am also a therapist) people are all different. I have so many customers from all walks of life. I never ever judge any of them. Just because they have baggy jeans, black finger nails, purple hair (uh….mine was on my 40th bday!!!), afro’s, braces, or whatever else that people get JUDGED for……doesn’t mean they are not good people. Teens are trying to ‘find’ themselves, older people…..(at any age above 21)Heck, I think sometimes we are STILL trying to find ourselves. But who cares what color their hair is???? Its fun trust me……Its whats on the inside that makes a person. I still have a hard time with people that are cruel to someone because of someting on the outside. I guess it will always be like that. And thats sad. People need to take more time in getting to know others than looking from the outside/in. Thats what I get to do when someone sits in my chair. I don’t turn anyone away. And I really get to know them, usually by that first visit. Theres so many GOOD people in the world. Andsome of them have “purple” hair (ha).
I don’t know if I really said what I wanted to say (I think I beat around the BIG bush) but I tried…..
Wellllll I guess I need to go get my day started. Its almost 10am….I will be back to let you know how the day at the salon went.
Just to let you know……I have customers ages from 0-99……and lots of teens……and I love you all…..no matter what you do……or how you look!!!!!!!
I guess I just wish people would feel the same as I do. Everyday, everywhere you hear or see people making fun of someone or talking about their clothes, makeup, life, whatever is “different” about them. I really think people need to stop and really take a good look at themselves. Just because its different to YOU why does it have to be different to someone else? Because you believe in something one way……why does someones else beliefs have to be “wrong” ? Everyone IS different and everyone DOES believe different. Everyone always believes THEIR way is the right way or THEIR beliefs are the right way and if you dont go along with THEIR thoughts or ways, then you are wrong. Those people need to definetly get a grip on life!!!!!!!!! Its back to the old aying “Treat others as you want to be treated”. But its just that THE OLD SAYING. Not too many people believe the old ways anymore.
All I want to say in conclusion, please lets just try to all get along. You believe what you want, everyone else believes what they want, wear what you want, makeup, no makeup, black finger nails, purple hair…..whatever the case is…..do it…..because I can tell you this, I am the same person I am today as the person last year that had purple hair!
I have never been a judgemental person. But I do want to thank everyone thats been in and out of my life that has made me the person that I am today! Of course my husband and children have taught me the most as it is the toughest of all learning….being a good mom and wife does take a little work……and that GIVING and TAKING line is the truth!!!Every obstical I have ran into has made me a stronger, better person. And to all of my customers, its definetly a wonderful learning experience having you all in my chair. I have learned so many many of lifes lessons by you sharing all of your stories. And that means the lil people all the way to the older people. And that is why this whole subject bothers me so much. I have “different” people in my chair! All the time!!! Our subjects have been from a drug addict to a mom that lost her children to a happily married man with children, or someone lost their job, or someones pregnant and only 12…..stories can go from bad to good or vise versa…..and you know what???? I love them all….are they bad people???? Because thats the way they live or what they went thru??? NO! They are human just like me and we all make mistakes and learn by them. Hopefully everyone gets thru it, some it may take longer than others and yes, theres some that never learn. But I will never judge them…..ony be here for them! I guess I would love for everyone to see things thru the eyes of a hairstylist! You would learn alot and see that its ok to be different!
Emmy Hair
Emmy Hair Revealed:
Celeb Stylists Dish on the Red Carpet Trends
By: Angie Manson
The 2009 Emmys showcased understated beauty all around. From the hair to the dress to the jewelry, small screen stars kept their looks simple and elegant—far from over the top. A host of celebrities favored swept back styles over elaborate creations, their hair pulled into neat chignons or ponytails at the nape. And other stars wore their hair down, displaying smooth, unfettered strands. We asked celeb styles to dish on their favorite looks of the night and weigh in on the understated, “less is more” hair trend.
Chic and Sophisticated
“Looking over-the-top and excessive is out. Nobody wants to make an overly glitzy fashion or beauty statement. That would be inappropriate given the state of our economy,” says Michael Shaun Corby, Alterna Global Creative Director. Jennifer Carpenter, January Jones, Olivia Wilde, Debra Messing and Drew Barrymore are just a few of the small screen stars who took it “nice and easy” on the red carpet, sporting upswept styles tied neatly at their napes for a look that was simple and polished. Pureology PureArtist Jay Palaniuk has noticed the red carpet trend shift too. “There’s been a definite change from the stiff, sculptured upstyles of previous Emmys to this year’s soft upswept romantic hair. It works with the
understated jewels and necklaces, he adds. “Although not your typical Hollywood glam, this soft, romantic evening look provided just what it needed to get across on this year’s red carpet.”
“Emmy hair was so simple and chic this year!” agrees celebrity stylist and What Not to Wear makeover man Ted Gibson. “The mood for the hair was understated and right for the hot day.” Gibson was on the red carpet doing makeovers and admitted that it was absolutely sweltering. “It was 95 plus degrees and everyone was sweating their heads off!” To keep celebs comfortable and classy, many stylists opted for sophisticated and easy chignons that would hold up in the heat.
Celebrity stylist Robert Vetica worked with Debra Messing and wanted her hair to complement her red Michael Kors gown. He created a low, asymmetrical ponytail shaped into a free-flowing cluster of curls that resembled an elegant chignon. “It was all about healthy, natural-looking ease,” says Vetica. “A smooth, shiny texture was the essence of the look.”
Vetica even kept his styling technique minimal, forgoing any curling or flat irons. He used only Moroccanoil Treatment, Moroccanoil Glimmer Shiny Spray, a blow dryer and a round brush to create Messing’s easy-going yes gorgeous asymmetrical style.
Easy Does It
Stars who chose to wear their hair down for the red carpet—like Alyson Hannigan, Kate Walsh, Mariska Hargitay, Holly Hunter and Rose Byrne—kept their look
smooth and unfettered. “We didn’t see many ornate, colorful dresses or over done hair,” notes Corby. “Cuts and color palettes were clean and uncomplicated. It was a return to simple glamour and even though the hair was really understated, we saw a lot of stunning sophistication on the red carpet.” Palaniuk agrees. “Again, celebs opted for understand everything. The hair was more subdued but still kept a sense of luxury and sophistication.”
Celebrity hairdresser Jason Schneidman styled How I Met Your Mother star Alyson Hannigan. “Over the years I’ve noticed that I gravitate towards a flowing ‘lived-in’ look versus a stiff hat,” he says. With that in mind, Alyson Hannigan’s hair was done to offset the flair of her classic black dress. “She needed big hair for balance, and that meant keeping her
hair down and voluminous.” Schneidman admits that he wanted to make Alyson look extra sexy given her new role as a hot mamma.
Enzo Angileri used Moroccanoil to style ‘Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series’ nominee Holly Hunter’s locks. He created a naturally elegant look that was silky smooth and shiny. ”I wanted her to look glamorous and goddess-like,” says Angileri, “and the hair had to look luminous.” He created a wavy texture that allowed her beautiful haircolor to stand out. “I wanted to bring out her deep gold and honey tones for the cameras.”

Hair….capelli (Italian)….cheveux(french)…..haar(german)…..Thought I’d put a little hair knowledge in todays blog!~
Question: What’s the Difference Between Semipermanent and Permanent Hair Color?
Answer: The difference between semipermanent and permanent hair color is how long you want the color to last and how much of a change you want.
If you’re looking to subtly deepen your natural hair color or add a layer of color (such as a red tone on brown hair), a semipermanent color is your best option. Keep in mind semipermanents darken hair. Because they don’t contain ammonia or peroxide, semipermanent color can’t lighten hair.
Semipermanent color washes out over a period of time (six to 12 shampoos, depending upon the formula), so if you don’t like the color you don’t have to live with it for too long. Another benefit of semipermanent color: Because the color is temporary, you won’t have to deal with noticeable roots.
Want a longer-lasting option? Consider a demipermanent color which, like semipermanent color, deepens and intensifies your natural color but won’t lighten hair. The difference is demipermanent color lasts 12-26 washes, depending on the formula.
If you want a more dramatic change (two or more shades darker or lighter than your natural hair color), a permanent color is a better option.
‘ Permanent hair color contains a blend of peroxide and ammonia and removes pigment from hair while also depositing new color.
Looking to cover gray hairs? Permanent color is the way to go. It won’t wash out and instead has to grow out. You’ll need to re-touch roots every six to eight weeks.
Social Networking
I was “surfing” and found this article; Thought I would share with anyone thats intrested!
Managing social network profiles is getting more difficult. As we sign up for more services, we need to split our time between multiple sites. But with the help of social aggregators, we can limit those issues. The following tools do a fine job of keeping your social life in one spot, helping you to monitor it more efficiently.
I should note, though, that these won’t be your path to social networking bliss. Some folks find aggregators too overwhelming. They believe these resources only complicate matters. You might agree after trying some of these tools.
I should also note that Facebook Connect–Facebook’s single sign-on service that competes with OpenID–might soon match these aggregation services. Users can already bring some items with them to Facebook. It might only be a matter of time before the service allows users to pull full social network feeds into Facebook.
Social network aggregators
Atomkeep Atomkeep is designed to help you sync all your profile information across multiple social networks. When you change your profile information on the site, all the networks you sync with it will be updated automatically. So, if you’re moving to a new home, you can go to Atomkeep, change your address, and it will update that information on Facebook, Bebo, and other social networks. The site is in private beta, so you’ll need an invite code to try it out.
Digsby Although Digsby is installed on your desktop and isn’t quite a Web tool like the others in this roundup, I thought it appropriate to include it, since it does require the Web to work and it aggregates all your social network data in one place.
Digsby provides a three-pronged approach to aggregation: instant messaging, e-mail, and social networks. You can sign in to practically any IM program in Digsby, including AIM, Yahoo IM, and others. If you’re a Gmail, Yahoo Mail, or Hotmail user, you can also use Digsby to manage your in-box. But its integration of social networks, including Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, and LinkedIn is quite appealing. The tool alerts you when you receive updates on your networks. Its news feed gives you constant updates about what your friends are up to. And when you want to update your own status, you can do it in Digsby without going to the individual social networks. But beware that right now, Digsby only works with Windows PCs. The company is promising Mac OS X and Linux support in the near future.
FriendBinder FriendBinder is a new service that’s currently in private beta. You’ll need to sign up on the site to get an invite. Once you start using FriendBinder, I think you’ll be happy with what you find. In a matter of minutes, you’ll be able to update your FriendBinder status and see what all your friends are up to on a variety of social networks.
FriendBinder is quite similar to FriendFeed. You add all the social networks you use to your profile and watch as your friends’ updates pass by. When a friend posts a Flickr photo, for example, FriendBinder lets you view it in the same window. Even better, you can update your Twitter and Facebook statuses right from the site. It makes monitoring and updating your social networks easy. You’ll have no trouble performing all your basic social activities on the site. I really liked it.
FriendFeed FriendFeed is the best social-network aggregator in this roundup. After you sign up, you’re immediately asked to add all the social networks you belong to. Once complete, your FriendFeed is populated with your updates from a wide array of sites, including Twitter and even Netflix. You can add Flickr photos to your Feed, give users updates from Facebook, and more. It’s a great way to communicate.
FriendFeed also lets you subscribe to other users’ feeds. When you do so, you’ll be able to see what updates they’re making across all the social networks they belong to. You can comment on those updates, “like” them, or share them on other social networks. FriendFeed even lets you join groups with like-minded people. It’s a great service.
Lifestream.fm Lifestream.fm is a useful app. After you sign up, it makes it easy to add your profiles from a slew of sources, including Facebook, Twitter, and Netflix. When complete, the site will populate your profile with all your updates across those social networks.
But when you start using Lifestream, you quickly find that, once again, it can’t quite stand up to FriendFeed. Its design is a little suspect and I had trouble getting my Twitter account to work on the site. Those issues took away from an otherwise useful service.
Ping.fm Ping.fm lets you add all your social networks to the site and update them from the Ping.fm pages. The sheer number of sources you can update is incredible. From FriendFeed to Twitter and Bebo to Facebook, you can update your status practically anywhere on the Web with Ping.fm. And updating that status is quite easy. You need only to choose the service you want to update and you’re all set. It’s a good way to get all your work done in one place.
Pulse Plaxo’s Pulse is somewhat useful for monitoring what your friends are up to on all their social networks. Once you sign up, the site lets you “connect” with others by asking for your e-mail address and password. It claims that it doesn’t save your password. When you go to the Pulse page, you’ll find a listing of all the recent updates made by friends on social networks. Although the site does support other social networks, I found that my stream was dominated by Twitter updates. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, but I would have liked more diversity.
Overall, Pulse is a fine tool. I liked having the option of grouping connections by family, friend, or business. I also liked how easy it was to add my social network profiles. It’s worth trying out.
Profilactic Profilactic is quite similar to FriendFeed. When you sign up for the site, it asks you to input all the social networks you currently belong to. It doesn’t have quite as many options as FriendFeed, but it’s close. If you want, you can also add blogs to your stream, so followers can see what updates you’re posting to your site.
You won’t be able to see what your friends are up to unless you become friends with them on Profilactic. Considering it’s substantially smaller than FriendFeed, you might have trouble finding friends to connect with.
Spokeo Spokeo isn’t nearly as useful as many competing products, but it does a fine job of aggregating all your friends’ updates across multiple social networks, including Facebook, Pandora, Digg, and others.
When you first sign up, Spokeo asks you to input your e-mail address and password. It then uses that information to find all the social networks you are registered with. Once complete, it finds all your friends on those services with public profiles and lists their recent activity. Unfortunately, you’ll only see previews of what they’ve added. I tried clicking on Flickr photos and couldn’t open them. I also didn’t like that Spokeo sends so many e-mail updates. I don’t care if someone is searching for me. And I don’t need to know its friend search is complete. Consider Spokeo a last resort.
top 3
1. FriendFeed: A no-brainer–the best in its class.
2. FriendBinder: It’s new, but convenient and well designed.
3. Atomkeep: Sync all your social networks in one place? Are you kidding me?

Wow! Its been a month! It was all wrapped around my oldest son Justin. It was a GREAT, special month……of course every day and every month is special when it comes to either one of my kids.
This month was gearing up for graduation. I still just can not believe that Jeff and I have a son that is 18years old and has graduated highschool. A college student now. Are we that old?? Haha Nah, I think we just started YOUNG right?
I was afraid I wouldn’t get through it. Thought it would be the hardest time of my life. I’m not gonna lie it was one of the hardest! But at sometime, the joy overwelms the scared part.
We have a son that we have raised the past 18years into a responsible young man that we are very proud of. Its the greatest feeling when you see them walk across that stage. That is a great acomplishment in itself. I remember when he started school way back, there were over 700 students in his class of 09′. 452 (maybe?) graduated. I understand that some have moved away, there are reasons there aren’t 700ish that walked, some may have dropped out……kicked out…..many many reasons it could be……But Justin made it thru…..and that makes me proud. AND….hes one of the top 25% of his class….Now he will be a pre med student in College. On to his next chapter in his life. Of course we will still be here for him as we always will. And his little brother is proud to have him as a big brother.
Thank you for any of you thats been part of me and my familys life. And congradulations to all the 09′ graduates!!! We love you all!

Children Learn What They Live
I’ve been cleaning house all day……almost spring cleaning…..and I was wiping down a picture I have hanging on the wall between the kids rooms. I love this….and I wanted to share……alot of times people don’t think about these things but are so true~
If a child lives with CRITICISM, he learns to CONDEM.
If a child lives with HOSTILITY, he learns to FIGHT.
If a child lives with RIDICULE, he learns to be SHY.
If a child lives with SHAME, he learns to feel GUILTY.
If a child lives with TOLERANCE, he learns to be PATIENT.
If a child learns to live with ENCOURAGEMENT, he learns to be CONFIDENT.
If a child lives with PRAISE, he learns to APPRECIATE.
If a child lives with FAIRNESS, he learns JUSTICE.
If a child lives with SECURITY, he learns to have FAITH.
If a child lives with APPROVAL, he learns to LIKE HIMSELF.
If a child lives with ACCEPTANCE and FRIENDSHIP, he learns to find LOVE in the world.
